Setting and achieving goals is what almost everybody does. They may be either large or small. We all strive to attain them as best as we can in light of our individual capabilities and resources. You need the right attitude as well as a mindset that allows you to attain them if you truly want to succeed. This can be accomplished in several ways, and you might be surprised to learn that you might have had everything you need to succeed all long.

Visualization is Important-Your goal starts from within. You must be passionate about your goals and strongly want to achieve them. This strong desire will lead you to constantly store ideas and thoughts in your mind that will guide you toward success. If your desire is weak, your results will also be weak, and your path toward achieving success will be longer. The first step is to dream a bit. Take a pencil and paper and write down the things you want to accomplish.

Visualize yourself accomplishing your already set goals. Mental attitude is extremely important and can subconsciously direct your actions toward achieving the goals you establish. Keep pictures of things to help you visualize. Try surfing online for the images to put you onto the right track. If you have difficulty visualizing this way, you might consider consulting a professional.

Create a List-The next step is to develop a list of steps designed to help you achieve your set goals. Creating action steps that ultimately lead to the fulfillment of your main aim is essential. For instance, you will need to create action steps such as investing, saving money, working additional hours, networking and the like if your goal is to get rich.

A highly detailed list is recommended. For example, it is better to write down “To become a millionaire” than simply “Being rich.” Always be specific about your action steps as well. For example, writing down “Save ten dollars every day” is preferable to “Save more money.” In addition, you should create a time line to allow you to complete tasks on schedule. You will accomplish your tasks better by setting some deadlines.

Think About the Good and the Bad-In addition to writing down your list of goals and action steps, you will want to list their advantages once they are accomplished. For example, you could write down “Buy a new Italian sports car,” “Deal with my main nemesis in the office,” etc. You will be more motivated when you write down specific advantages. You can also list the consequences of failure or delay. Some examples of these types of consequences include “Lose my home” or “disappoint my spouse.”

The Attitude to Succeed-The right attitude for success is a mental approach that helps you stick with your goals.  Discipline, patience and consistency are the most significant attributes of the right attitude. Discipline is a willingness to forgo some immediate gratifications in order to achieve larger and long lasting benefits in the future. Patience involves waiting for the right opportunity and persevering despite occasional disappointments.  Consistency describes the way you work to achieve your goals.

The right attitude can be achieved by speaking with successful people and by finding a partner who will be able to provide motivation when you run into difficulty or obstructions. You need to review your list every so often and make whatever adjustments become necessary over time. Things might change a bit, but you have to stay with your goal, even if you have modified your plan.

Susan Boyle Sings Success

Susan Boyle can teach us all a lesson about how to achieve success. Defined as “the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors”, true success remains elusive for most people – regardless of profession. As a global “overnight sensation” Susan oozed courage, patience and determination in pursuing her personal goal. The truth is that most of us are just too busy being comfortable with where we are, as opposed to taking the risks necessary to be successful.

Never underestimate the power of a positive mindset. The only thing you have control of in your life is your perception. Luckily for Susan Boyle, this is the force that can move mountains. Instill within yourself a positive mindset and you’ve instilled the energy of success. This energy will forever attract its twin. In other words, the energy of success attracts the manifestation of success in actual life. A positive mindset incorporates strong self-belief, drive and determination.

To be successful you must develop your mission statement and break it down into smaller components. It is important to set small goals every day. In this, you are creating the step-by-step process to achieving your greater goals. Once successful patterns are established in your life, everything becomes possible.

When creating a goal-setting routine, set primary objectives in one or two areas to begin. As you start realizing small successes, add more objectives. Take a separate piece of paper for every objective. Clearly write the objective and the deadline for achieving your goal. Next, list the reasons you have for achieving each objective. Many people fail to achieve success simply because they lack clear reasons for doing so. For example, Susan Boyle made it her mission to enter, and win, a singing competition. She carefully planned the daily set of actions that would help her accomplish this mission. Susan did all this as a tribute to her late mother. The more compelling your reasons are, the greater your chances will be for meeting your objectives. Conversely, if you can’t come up with good reasons to do something, you may as well set another objective, as this one won’t be achieved.

Susan Boyle had the clarity of vision in her quest. Define what success means to you and manifest it in your actions. Combat every failing with a positive mindset and you’ll realize that even mistakes are just another step in the right direction. When life doesn’t go your way it’s important not to get discouraged. The less it seems as if things are on the right track, the more you are required to persevere in your endeavor. Commitment means for better or for worse and no business endeavor comes without its lumps. Keep your positive mindset handy against whatever obstacles are thrown in your way.

Susan Boyle practiced her singing diligently and applied to appear on the Britain’s Got Talent television show. Had she not done so she wouldn’t have achieved her goal. As you can see, it takes action to achieve your dreams. Action is the final puzzle piece needed to build success.

Susan Boyle stayed true to her vision and pursued her dream. Remember that everyone suffers before achieving glory.

A man observes evergreens growing along the roadside and thinks that they look pretty, covered with snow. Another man sees the same trees and thinks, “These trees would look good in people’s living rooms at Christmas. I wonder what they would pay for them?”

The first man has an ordinary mind. The second, the mind of a natural-born moneymaker.

In The Prime Movers, Edwin A. Locke provides some interesting insights into the way moneymakers think:

He argues that an active, inquisitive mind is a hallmark of the successful entrepreneur. The most successful entrepreneurs in history, he says, had this sort of mind.

    * Thomas Edison: He was a “virtual thinking machine. Almost until the day he died, his mind poured forth a torrent of ideas, and he might track as many as 60 experiments at a time in his laboratory.”

    * Steve Jobs: He bombarded people with his ideas – his investors, his board of directors, his customers, his subordinates, and his CEO.

    * Henry Ford: “He threw himself into every detail, insisting on getting small things absolutely right… But he never lost sight of the ultimate, overall objection. He had a vision of what his new car (the Model T) should look like. From all the improvisation, hard thought, and hard work came a machine that was at once the simplest and the most sophisticated automobile built to date anywhere in the world.”

This is the first of several essays I’ll be writing on this point: how to think like a multimillionaire (taken from the concepts I’ve learned from 2 multimillioinares that are my personal mentors).

And here’s the goal: to help you discover exactly how they do what they do by figuring out how they think. If you study this and subsequent essays seriously – and implement the suggestions I’ll be making – you may be able to “upgrade” your brain to one that will allow you to have the kind of life they enjoy.

To get started, here are some observations I’ve made from studying my two multimillionaire mentors and from reading about great wealth builders like Jobs and Edison and Ford.

1. A “normal” person is concerned with protecting his ego. When dealing with a problem he doesn’t really understand, he pretends he understands the contributing factors and doesn’t try to find out what anyone else thinks. A person with a multimillionaire mind asks questions incessantly.  He has no ego when it comes to learning. He knows that knowledge is power.

2. A “normal” person has a consumer mentality. He looks at a hot new product and thinks about how he would like to own one. A person with a multimillionaire mind has an entrepreneurial men-tality. He looks at it and thinks, “How can I produce this or something similar in my own industry?”

3. A “normal” person is wish-focused. He daydreams about making gobs of money. A person with a multimillionaire mind is reality-based. He is always analyzing his own success and the success of others and wondering how he could learn from it.

4. A “normal” person, when confronted with a challenging idea, thinks of all the reasons why it might not work. A person with a multimillionaire mind sees the potential in it and disregards the problems until he has a clear vision of how it might succeed.

5. A “normal” person resists change. A person with a multimillionaire mind embraces it.

6. A “normal” person accepts the status quo. A person with a multimillionaire mind is always looking to make things – even good things – better.

7. A “normal” person reacts. A person with a multimillionaire mind is proactive.

8. A “normal” person looks at a successful business owner and thinks, “That guy’s lucky.” Or “That guy’s a shyster.” A person with a multimillionaire mind thinks, “What’s his secret?” And, “How can I do that?”

Most importantly, a person with a multimillionaire’s mind likes living like a multimillionaire. He doesn’t shortchange himself when it comes to comfort and luxury. Rather than believing always that pain leads to gain, he thinks, “If I’m smart I can have my cake and eat it too.

You can start your mental transformation by studying this list and assessing your own impulses. Be honest. Identify the habits you don’t have and try to develop them. Rather than think of this process as work, think of it as fun.

You best life now begins with a decision…
