In this world in which we live, it is easy to become stagnant, to be comfortable where we are. This leads to lazy, lower-quality lives that get boring quickly. You may find yourself stuck in a rut, comfortable, but bored and getting nowhere. Have you considered setting goals for yourself? Most of us make goals around the New Year that we forget a week later.
Daily goal setting is an excellent way to improve yourself on a consistent basis. When you wake up in the morning, what thoughts usually run through your mind? What you want for breakfast, or five more minutes, or what you have to deal with today? What if instead it was, “What one small thing can I do today to better myself?”
When people picture daily goal setting, it usually involves writing something down. That can be an important step, but it certainly is not the only one. Once you have written your goal, set it in a place you will see it. One day it might be a task you want to complete or working hard to keep your temper with your family.
Perhaps the goal you choose is not something you can complete in one day. Those are called long-term goals, but they must be divided up into manageable, daily goal setting options. It might be a goal to lose weight, to save money or finish reading that book. These are fine goals, but they must be broken down if they are to be accomplished. What will you do this very day to help you reach your goal of losing weight? It could be a healthy breakfast today, an apple for a snack instead of pizza, and no dessert. These are short-term, achievable goals you can visualize taking you to your larger goal. Taking a long-term goal apart is essential in making personal progress.
Daily goal setting is for everyone who wants to continually work on becoming a better person. At the end of the day, assess what progress you have made. Maybe you slipped up and lost your temper once, or could not resist that scoop of ice cream. It’s not the end, there is always tomorrow. However, it is a good idea to have a time frame in mind for reaching long-term goals. Something measurable like the loss of weight is satisfying as you see yourself achieving what you always knew you could.
