Finding Your Motivation: Your Reason For Getting in Shape

Finding Your Motivation: Your Reason For Getting in Shape
By M Stewart Hansen
I don’t know about you but I have always found that actually working out is much easier than actually making the decision to start working out. Nothing will make you feel more worthless than packing your workout bag and having it sit in your car unopened for months at a time while you hem and haw about getting your lazy butt to the gym.

It’s sad but most of us actually have to shame ourselves into making the decision to start working out. How many times have you looked into the mirror in the morning as you were getting ready for work or school and noticed that your eyes were instantly drawn to your bulging belly or double chin? Then you tell yourself while pinching said fat “I need to get to the gym”. Then like the movie Groundhog Day, you do it all over again, morning after morning.

Well, here are a few things to keep in mind to help you find that motivation to get you to grab that gym bag out of your back seat and drag yourself into the locker room:

1. Remember your favorite clothes in the dresser that no longer fit? Want to wear them again? Don’t make them keepsakes and proof that you were once in shape. Lose the weight and actually wear them.

2. Do you feel more attractive without the extra pounds? Why lose your self esteem simply because you are too lazy to get yourself into shape? Lose the weight, feel sexy again!

3. Will you live longer in your current shape or if you were thinner? Lets face it, there is all kinds of studies to tell you that you die sooner than later if you aren’t taking care of your body. How about you lose the weight and gain some years. That should be all the motivation you need.

4. If you are single, it’s a good way to meet someone. Chances are, once you start feeling better about the way you look then you will start to be more confident. The opposite of sex will pick up on your confidence and may even notice the great bod you are sculpting.

5. Join a Club or Gym that is close to home or work. It’ll be harder to make an excuse not to go daily.

6. Stress is bad and working out relieves stress. So between your low self esteem, stress, high percentage of body fat and those awesome clothes that no longer fit you should have no problem finding a reason to actually get your butt in gear and start working out.
