8 Steps To Make Your Goals a Reality

1. Write it down- Writing down a goal is very important, because it helps you to focus on that goal.

It is also good to put your goals somewhere that you can look at them every day.  Some people only need to write their goals down, while others need to see a picture of their goals every day.

Once I write a goal down, and have it fixed in my mind…that is all I need to stay focused.  Every one is different  but the least you should do is write your goals down.

2. Be Specific- Not long ago I was nearly $200,000 in debt.  There is nothing that I wanted more than to get rid of that debt.

I set a goal at the beginning of the year to get out of debt by the end of the year, but I did not know how I would make it happen.  I ended up filing for bankruptcy by the end of the year.

I accomplished my goal but I did not plan to file for bankruptcy.  If you do not write down specifically how you plan to achieve your goal, you might accomplish it, but not in the most favorable manner.

3. Be Thankful- Although you may strive for a better life, it is important to be thankful for what you already have.

For example, I remember when the gas prices sky-rocketed not long ago.  I was driving an old gas-guzzling pick up truck at the time.

I cursed that pick-up truck every time I had to put gas in it. I could not focus on anything else, but getting a small economical gas-saving car.

I eventually got my car, but not before my truck broke down and I had to walk for two months. Be thankful for what you already have.

4. Make your goals a priority- If you expect to achieve your goals, you must make them a priority in your life.  We may say our goals are a priority, but our actions speak louder than our words.

Whatever you spend the majority of your time doing and thinking about is your priority.  So if that thing is not your goal, do not lie to yourself and say that your goal is a priority, when your actions say otherwise.

5. Take the right actions- If you want to achieve your goals, it is not only important to take action, but you must take the right actions.

How do we know what the right actions are?  The first action that you need to take is to ask yourself specifically how are you going to achieve your goals.

Next find someone who is already where you want to be and then learn how they did it, and model them.  Map out your plan all of the way down to the specific daily actions that you need to take.

Then take those action steps consistently and persistently until you reach your goal.

6. Stop making excuses- Excuses seem so harmless and logical, but we must recognize them for what they really are.  Excuses are a powerful enemy to your success.

It is so easy to make an excuse and justify them, but if we habitually make excuses, we will look up years later and realize that we never accomplished our goals.  We will blame anything or anybody else anybody for our failure, without even realizing that the real reason was our own excuses.

7.  Do a self -analysis- It is important to know your own strengths and weaknesses so that you can recognize areas where you need to improve or get help.

Also you want to check your results on a regular basis to make sure you stay on track to reaching your goal.

8. Eliminate distractions- Distractions take away from our focus, and it is important eliminate them if we want to make our goals a reality.  Some distractions are easier to eliminate than others.

If you have a person in your life that is making it difficult to achieve your goals, part of taking the right actions may be to improve your own personality and communication skills, so that you are able to influence that person to become cooperative in helping you to achieve your goals.

This is called taking complete responsibility.  When you blame someone or something else for your failures you give that person or thing so much power in your life.

On the other hand, if you take complete responsibility for the results in your own life, you will realize that you need to constantly work on yourself, so that your influence will grow over the people and things in your life.

I am not just repeating something that I read in a book.  I know this stuff works based on my own experiences, and if you apply these 8 steps in your life you will start to move towards making your goals a reality also.

Much Success,

What Will Be Your Legacy?

Who do you want to be remembered as?

Imagine you decided to build a house. You collected some material that you thought looked nice and that you thought might be useful for building houses. Out of this material you picked up the pieces that seemed to go well together and you started to build a foundation. You continued to add more pieces that you thought looked useful. The building became higher and higher. After building for about 80 years you became tired and decided to stop building. You sat down to look at what you had accomplished. Unfortunately, although you had devoted your whole life for this building project, the result was more a pile of junk rather than a house. You had never used a plan for your house. You never had an image of the finished house in your head when you started. Because of this no house was created.

Many people use the same “method” when they build their lives. They collect diplomas and experiences that they think “look nice”, and they put these together in ways that seem reasonable and appropriate according to the laws of society. The problem is that if you don’t have a plan of what kind of life you are building, your life will most likely end up as just a pile rather than a castle.  Collecting a pile of interesting experiences is fine if you are satisfied with that. However, if you want people to remember you after you leave this life, you will need more than just “a pile”. You will need a clear building that people will be able to recognise.

The Eiffel Tower would be very difficult to recognise if the material it is built with was just put together randomly. Fortunately, the people who built it had a construction plan, and because of this it can now be recognised by people all over the world.

If you want to leave a legacy, you need to decide what that legacy will be. What will your building look like? Who will you be remembered as? If people write books about you, what will they write?

Ones you know what you want the end-product to look like, it will be much easier to make sure that every piece that you add to it on the way will get into the right position. Once you know who you want to be remembered as you can start to think about what to do to become that person.

A goal is defined as the purpose toward which an endeavor is directed; an objective. Everyone has goals, whether we know it or not. While personal goals are important, another area of goals you may want to pursue is that of career goal setting. Corporate or business goal setting is also a major area of goal interest.

In setting goals, it is important to be passionate. More powerful than any goal you ever set is the passion you have for what you want, what you do, and who you are. Find your passion first, and then set your goals around that.

It is also important that your goal be realistic, specific, and detailed. Your goals should be just out of reach, but not out of sight. You want to stretch to be your best, not strain after impossible dreams. Also, top achievers know that to reach their goals, the brain must know exactly, precisely, what they are trying to accomplish. Be specific. Your brain can help you accomplish almost anything if it knows precisely what you are aiming for. In other words, the goal itself is almost never enough. The most effective goals are designed so that you know the goal, the date by which you will achieve it, the quantity by which you will measure it, and how it will change your life. Remember that a goal without a measurable outcome is just a pipe-dream.

Another thing is to make sure that your goals are consistent with your values. If the goal you set is congruent with and allows you to live your most important values, you are more likely to accomplish the goal.

Most importantly, you should believe that you can achieve your goal. If it’s taking longer than you planned, don’t give up. Maybe you’re concentrating too hard on reaching the goal and losing sight of why you set it in the first place.
